Kids across the country just walked back into their classrooms. Backpacks, new shoes, first-day photos. And in Minnesota, a university-built product now exists that could follow them there.
Researchers at the University of Minnesota's Eli Coleman Institute built "MyGender Dolls" dolls with interchangeable, removable genitalia, designed for children as young as four.
The university calls it a privately funded, clinical tool for licensed professionals only. Federal officials disagree. The U.S. Department of Education calls it taxpayer-funded and has opened a formal investigation.
No district has confirmed plans to bring these dolls into a classroom. University researchers say it won't happen this year. But that's a promise, not a policy, and nothing binds them to it. The product's own website says it's intended for counselors and educators. That tells you where this could be heading. As millions of kids fill classrooms nationwide this month, dolls like this have no business anywhere near children as young as four-year-old and we can't wait for them to slip through the schoolhouse door like a Trojan horse, unnoticed until it's too late.
Sign now to urge Commissioner Willie Jett to adopt a formal written policy permanently barring these dolls from Minnesota classrooms.They are taking every opportunity to strip parental rights, throw child safeguards out the window, and sneak hidden agendas into a room meant to help children grow and gain an education.
But parents, not a research lab, decide how their children learn about their own bodies. Building this material and marketing it for children as young as four-year-olds flips that responsibility on its head, and it's the very issue driving the federal investigation.
Children are vulnerable, and kids as young as four are still learning to trust their own bodies. They're in no position to process removable anatomy or adult ideas about gender identity.
The state Department of Education, the university, and the governor's office all insist schools have no plans for these dolls. Good, then write it down and make it binding. A real policy costs them nothing. Refusing to sign one only raises the question of why.
Add your name: demand that Commissioner Willie Jett ban these dolls in writing and require certification from every district.
Two paths from here. One: these dolls eventually reach a classroom, and children as young as four face material that no child that age should see. Two: they are banned in writing, permanently, and every district certifies none were purchased.
The window to choose the second path is open now, before any doll ever reaches a classroom. Once one does, pulling it back gets far harder. No parent should have to wonder if their child's classroom is next.
