The controversy is already here. The only question is whether the WNBA will address it honestly. It must be willing to define “woman” clearly and in biological terms.
A woman is an adult human female. Eligibility must be based on biological sex, not gender identity, self-identification, or changing definitions.
The league's own Collective Bargaining Agreement says that “only players who are women are eligible.” But the league still refuses to define “woman” or adopt a clear eligibility policy based on biological sex.
That loophole has sparked a national debate, and the WNBA’s response has only made matters worse.
Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham faced backlash after speaking up for fairness in women’s sports. Then, at a game in Atlanta, a 17-year-old girl and her mother were told to cover their XX-XY Athletics shirts or leave. Yet a coach wearing a “Trans Kids Belong” shirt faced no penalty.
One viewpoint is celebrated. The other is treated as offensive.
That is not inclusion. It is a double standard.
Women fought to build this league. They should not be silenced for defending the very reason it exists.
We call on the WNBA to:
Define “woman” according to biological sex.
Adopt a binding policy reserving WNBA competition for biological women.
Protect players and fans who respectfully defend women’s sports.
Commissioner Engelbert, the controversy is already at your door. Stop dodging it.
Protect women’s basketball. End the double standard. Keep the WNBA female.
